Operation Profile: Is it
possible to raise wine sales per cover by more than 10%,
even in a soft economy? Of course, as this Silicon Valley
restaurant demonstrates with its clever, on-going wine sales
contests.
Wine Merchandising: "Pricing
as Promotion". This Los Angeles restaurant is a local
landmark (it opened its doors in 1908). But its value pricing
and its 77% pouring cost (!) are raising eyebrows and attracting
patrons to its wine selections.
Wine Reviews: 188 recommended
wines from seven countries, including fine sparkling wines
from one of California's best-known bubbly producers; a
host of outstanding 1999 Pinot Noirs from California; several
amazing values from Chile; and 23 of the best new releases
from South Africa.
